Canadian student permit renewal (application conditions, quotas, spouse work visa)
To study in Canada, if the course lasts for 6 months or more, the applicant needs to apply for a study Permit. Generally speaking, a visa application requires a school acceptance letter, financial proof, physical examination certificate, etc. In order to effectively control the number of international students, the Canadian Immigration Department will control the number of student visas issued, which will be approximately 485,000 in 2024 and will drop to 437,000 in 2025.
(Updated November 8, 2024)
Part-time Work Hours:
For student permit holders permitted to work off-campus, the maximum allowable work hours are 24 hours per week. However, there are no restrictions on work hours during extended holidays such as winter and summer breaks.
Changingn the Schools:
If a student permit holder needs to transfer schools (e.g., switching to another DLI institution), it is not sufficient to simply update their IRCC account. They must apply for a new student permit. This applies to situations such as moving from secondary school to post-secondary institutions, switching from post-secondary to secondary programs, or transferring between post-secondary institutions (including universities). Applicants must provide a letter of explanation detailing the reasons for the transfer. Unless specific conditions are met, students must wait for the new visa to be approved before beginning studies at the new institution.
Starting from January 22, 2024, the IRCC requires applicants for the following courses to provide, in addition to the above documents, a Provincial Attestation Letter issued by the school to prove that the school has obtained the admission quota allocated by the province.
Application conditions
Courses that require a Provincial Level Affiliate Letter (PAL) are subject to quota restrictions :

(Application conditions, English requirements, spouse work visa)
After completing their course in Canada, international students in public schools can apply for a 3-year Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) within 180 days to stay in Canada and work legally, thereby gaining Canadian work experience. However, the IRCC will implement a new Post-Graduate Work Permit policy starting November 1, 2024:
Applicants who have obtained or submitted a student permit application before November 1, 2024:
Graduates of any degree program, including bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees, need to submit proof of English language proficiency (CLB 7: equivalent to 6 points in IELTS, or 7 points in CELPIP) when submitting a PGWP application. Graduates of other college programs need to submit proof of English language proficiency (CLB 5: equivalent to 4 points in IELTS reading and 5 points in the other 3 items, or 5 points in CELPIP)
If you submitted and received a student permit application on or after November 1, 2024:
Graduates of any degree program, including bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees, need to submit proof of English language proficiency (CLB 7: equivalent to 6 points in IELTS, or 7 points in CELPIP) when submitting a PGWP application. Graduates of other college programs need to submit proof of English language proficiency (CLB 5: equivalent to 4 points in IELTS reading and 5 points in the other 3 items, or 5 points in CELPIP)
Graduates of any non-degree program, including college certificates (CLB 5), diplomas (CLB 5), or other non-degree university programs (CLB 7), in addition to submitting proof of English language proficiency, must also study courses and subjects that are aligned with the needs of the Canadian labor market, namely the following five major subjects, approximately 980 types of courses:
1) Agriculture and Agri-food

**From May 15, 2024, if the course you are studying is jointly sponsored by a public and private college, that is, the course and diploma are provided by the public college, but the international student takes classes at the co-sponsored private college, and the letter of acceptance (LOA) is also provided by the private college, graduates of such courses cannot apply for a post-graduate work permit.
