Before going to Canada, you need to apply for an eTA electronic visa, which costs $7 Canadian dollars. Apply online and you will receive an email notification within one or two days. Show the number to the airline staff before boarding the plane. This is a convenience for general Hong Kong SAR passport holders and other visa-free countries to travel to Canada. In view of this, starting from June 6, 2023, the IRCC has added 13 countries that are eligible for electronic visas (eTA), including:
Philippine
Thailand
Argentina
Antigua and Barbuda
Costa Rica
Morocco
Panama
Saint Kitts and Nevis
Saint Lucia
St. Vincent and the Grenadines
Seychelles
Trinidad and Tobago
Uruguay
However, to meet the eTA application requirements, applicants from the above countries need to have obtained a Canadian Visitor Visa in the past 10 years, or hold a valid U.S. non-immigrant visa. Otherwise, if the applicants from the above countries are applying to Canada for the first time, they still need to apply for a Visitor Visa. After approval, they can apply for an eTA when they go to Canada again, without having to apply for a new visa.
